A Weekend Girl trip to Chicago!

What a time we had! Over 10 years ago I met two of the ladies that went on this trip, Mary and Melissa. At the time we were attending the same church and I had no idea what God had planned for the three of us! We have become very good friends while walking next to each other the last ten years. For Mary and me, our families live a good distance away, so these friendships are what keep you going at times. Melissa and Mary both have aided with childcare while each of my children were born and through all my hospital stays. They have been there to celebrate with us over the years and they have been there to walk through the valleys that life brings. They know me inside and out and still love me! They have been what God knew I would need!

All of this to say I love spending time with them. They are my sisters! Betsy and Kelly also were on this trip. Betsy I have known for a shorter time, but we have quickly become friends. We have some very similar life situations and I think that alone has drawn us to each other! This was so fun to get to know Betsy even more. Kelly I didn’t know too well, but after a few days away I am happy to call her a friend! I look so forward to going again sometime.

Before we even got out of town we quickly realized that we were not young ladies anymore. I think all but one of us left at least one child crying begging us not to go and a husband looking somewhat worried. Honestly I didn’t really care what we did, just as long as we left town. Luckily Melissa is very organized and had our hotel all ready and maps to everywhere and our schedule planned out! As the laughter started I realized how badly I needed to just get away. To put life back into perspective and again realize what is important. Things are not so important, but relationships are. I am so blessed to be able to call each of these ladies my friends.

Friday night we went to the hotel and got settled. Melissa is our hairdresser so she had brought color and highlights! So we spent the night and into the morning doing each other’s hair and laughing. Did I mention laughing, the best medicine for the soul! Saturday we went to IKEA and then downtown Chicago! What fun! Again we realized we were all now mom’s. Mary and I spent lots of time in the lego store getting our picture taken with all these different creations so that our boys could see! And we were having FUN! I would never of pictured myself in a lego store without my boys getting my picture taken enjoying every moment simply knowing how excited they would be when they saw the pictures.

It was cold and snow/rain mix, but we still had fun!
This is one of the pictures I took for Corban, this thing was HUGE!

We headed back Sunday and stopped at the outlet mall. My face hurt by the time we got back from all the smiling and laughing. Exhausted from a weekend of fun we returned home to find that each our kids had grown a foot and we couldn’t wait to hold them in our arms again. All of our husbands were glad to see us return! So this is being a MOM! I love it and wouldn’t trade it, but I also will look forward to the next trip!

I had to laugh and wonder what future trips will look like! Maybe one where we take our daughters! Or “The Girls” when all our children are grown and gone. Whatever it looks like I am so happy to know that I will have some awesome sisters to go with! Thanks Ladies! This was one for the books!

  1. Nice post Babe. I'm glad you had a great time with great friends! I'd watch the kids again so you could go, but not any time too soon. Maybe the guys need to get away next. Even if it's for a day. :)

  2. Can you believe that's something I've never done? Maybe, next time you can all take an old Aunt that needs a good laugh along. Wouldn't that be fun! LOL
